Authentic markets

Visiting a market in the Costa de Prata is quite an experience; the big difference with other markets is that you can really buy anything you can imagine. Clothing (from casual to men’s suits), shoes, tools, carpets, food,  horse saddles and live animals such as chickens, rabbits and puppies. The Mercado de Santana in Venda da Costa or the market Santana in Pataiasis is really an experience. Every Sunday morning of the year you can experience the Portuguese lifestyle at this authentic market. And you will not be alone! Because visitors come from everywhere. You will find on the market fresh fruit and vegetables, all kinds of cheese, but also baskets, furniture and hardware. And after a pleasant morning at the market you could finish with a delicious almoço, the traditional Portuguese lunch. Chicken piri-piri, batatas fritas and a delicious local wine. Naturally followed by a typical Portuguese coffee.

• Every Monday in Caldas da Rainha, direction Rio Maior, after the 3rd roundabout (Rua Dr Vieira Pereira)

• 2nd Tuesday of the month in Alfeizerão

• Every Thursday in Malveira

• Last Thursday of the month in Peniche

• Every Friday in Nazaré

• Every Saturday in Leiria (at the football stadium) and in Marinha Grande

Vegetable, fruit and fish markets

• Daily open fruit and vegetable market (Praça da República) and covered fish market (Mercado de Peixe, Rua Leonel Sotto Mayor) in Caldas da Rainha

• Daily, except Mondays, covered vegetable, fruit and fish market in São Martinho do Porto

Flea and antique markets

• 1st Saturday of the month in Peniche

• 2nd Saturday in Leiria

• 4th Saturday in Marinha Grande

• 1st Sunday in Obidos

• 2nd Sunday in the park of Caldas da Rainha

• 3rd Sunday in Alcobaça, next to the monastery

• 4th Sunday in São Martinho do Porto, at the bay. If there is            a  5th Sunday in the month, there is an arts / crafts market at        the  bay in São Martinho do Porto
