Obidos
Obidos is a small town on top of a hill with white houses, completely surrounded by high medieval walls covered with colorful Bougainvillea plants. The castle with its massive tower has now been converted into an elegant Pousada. It is very cozy in the small streets. From the city wall you have not only a spectacular view of the old city, but also of the surrounding area. Very nice is the main street that you enter through the large gate, with its beautiful blue wall tiles (Azulejos). The many shops have all kinds of handmade and regional items for sale. And of course there are many restaurants and terraces where you can enjoy typical Portuguese dishes. You can enjoy a glass of Ginjinha in different places. This liqueur, made from sour cherries, is a typical Obidos drink which is often offered and drunk from little chocolate cups.
